Could depression be our bodies way of telling us that we are processing information the wrong way?
Let’s pretend for a moment that it’s true. At the time we notice ourselves becoming depressed or anxious aren’t we usually mentally processing some type of information? If that is accurate, it would indicate that our depression or anxiety could be traced back to what we have on our minds.
Of course there are situations in life where anxiety and depression would be considered a normal response. Such as in wars, natural disasters, and loss of freedom. But… that’s my whole point. Normalcy. Just as hunger is uncomfortable to the body, it is also considered to be a normal and necessary function of our bodies, to signal to us that we need nourishment.
Could depression and or anxiety be a perfectly normal and necessary function of our bodies to signal to us that we are processing information the wrong way? And if this is true, are medications, and or submission to depression and anxiety really the correct answer? Or is the correct answer, as simple as changing our minds? In closing my suggestion to you is, consider depression and or anxiety to be similar to hunger pains. When you are hungry the remedy is to eat. Right?
When you find yourself depressed, whether it is concerning your finances, or the many other things that happen in life, consider that “uncomfortable feeling”, your bodies way of telling you that you are not processing information in a way that is healthy for your body and mind. Depression may be as normal and necessary as being able to feel heat, cold, and hunger.
I know sometimes when we are depressed, we try to simply adopt a positive attitude, or maybe just attempt to think about something else that doesn’t bother us. The only problem being that usually when we try not to think about things that are depressing, it can backfire and cause us to think even more about what we were trying not to think about! (smiles) Plus developing the “positive attitude” characteristic takes a lot of practice for most of us.
My suggestion for you is this… No matter what the situation, whether it’s your personal finances, business, or the relationships your life, when you notice depression creeping into your mind, think of that feeling as your bodies natural way of telling you to change your PERSPECTIVE. And keep on changing your perspective on whatever it is that depresses you, until the depression subsides. Think of it as finding the right key to a lock. Your freedom from depression is Dependant on you opening that lock. Your perspective will be the key.
If depression is a normal function of the body, let’s imagine it’s the bodies way of purging unhealthy or diseased thinking. If this makes sense to you, then we should neither fear depression or attempt to medicate it away. Or possibly just as damaging, give in to it and eventually forfeit our dreams and goals. I believe that depression is dependent on perspective.
