Understanding The LED TV Technology

An LED TV is an LCD TV that uses LED backlighting technology rather than fluorescent lights used in the traditionally known LCD televisions.
The latest technology and buzz in the HDTV marked is surrounding LED TV’s. LED HDTV’s are known for being super thin and displaying a great image. They tend to have a much great contract than competing flat panels and combine the benefits of LCD TV’s and Plasma TV’s into one. One of LCD HDTV’s downfalls is not being able to display true blacks. Plasma HDTV’s tend to not be as bright as a comparable LCD. LED TV’s show blacks similar to a plasma TV but are brighter than LCD TV’s – the best of both worlds.
As HDTVs become more common–some would say commoditized–TV makers go to greater lengths to justify higher price tags. Nobody is going as far as Samsung this year. The company is the only one thus far to announce a full lineup of edge-lit LED-based LCDs, which cost a mint yet offer the most advanced technology and design you can get–at least until OLED comes along.
While most still refer to these as LCD televisions due to the panel still being an LCD panel, Samsung has made the choice to call their LED backlit LCDs “LED TVs”. The LED backlighting should make colors more realistic and provide better blacks than conventional LCDs but motion blur will still be an issue as it is a limitation of the LCD technology.
The LED technology TV’s come mainly in two styles, The dynamic RGB LED televisions that can be positioned right behind the panel, or the others are white edge LED Televisions set around the outside of the screen which use special diffusion panels to spread the light right across the screen evenly from behind the screen.
LED TVs offer a brighter picture while at the same time being able to produce a better contrast ratio. The result is a TV that is slimmer with a picture that is brighter and darker at the same time. Clusters of LED lights can be dimmed for an incredibly responsive display. Everything that you watch on an LED TV will look better than your old TV. From video games to chick flicks, you will see detail that you have been missing before you got your LED TV.
One of the early leaders in LED TV’s so far has been Samsung with several LED models available. LED HDTV prices are still a little steep but dropping quickly. If you’re in the market for a new HDTV, you should definitely check out the latest LED TVs before dropping a few thousand dollars.
Samsung is leading the way with the introduction of a complete line of LED TVs that are not only striking visually, but are high performance, and low energy usage. With a slim design (less than 2 inches thick), excellent picture quality and performance, while not quite as good as the Pioneer Elite Kuro, the LED TVs are for the most discerning client.
Sharp, one of the main manufacturers has also produced LED TV technology that aligns the LED bulbs on back of the TV like the RGB Dynamic LED technology, but the downfall is that it lacks the local dimming of the other LED TV technology.

A Reluctance to Engage: The Challenge For ITC Vendors in Getting Channel Partners to Co-Market

What is the biggest challenge facing channel marketing Director’s today? Anecdotal feedback from many indicates that it is the reluctance of channel partners to engage in co-marketing campaigns with them, despite substantial MDF funds being on offer.
This article examines some of the key reasons why partners are reluctant to engage in co-marketing campaigns, and what the technology vendors can do to reduce these obstacles.
Objection 1: “We have already committed our marketing budget for the quarter or year”.
This comes down to a lack of planning on the part of the Vendor’s channel team. Most company’s financial year is calendar, so every October and November the Vendor’s channel team should be working with key partners on their joint marketing calendar, including budgets, for the following year.
Events and campaigns should be mapped out, using the Vendors marketing calendar as the basis. Good overlap opportunities for co-marketing events and campaigns should be identified, and nailed down. The entire year’s co-marketing plans will therefore be mapped out before the year gets underway.
Channel marketing teams should remember that they are competing with other Vendor’s for their partners time, resources and budget. The partner only has so many resources to share between IBM, HP and Oracle for example, and the early bird will catch the most worms.
Objection 2: “We just don’t have the time and resources”.
Many Vendors don’t understand how much pressure the smaller partners in particular are under. They have to make a profit every quarter, and have a very limited marketing team, if any. They need to focus on making sales – now. Marketing campaigns need to be simple to prepare, launch and manage.
“Campaigns in a Box” are a great way to get partners marketing joint solutions professionally and efficiently. However, this is only part of the solution. The Vendor has to make it easy for the partner to customise, launch, report and claim back funds on the campaign. Often, the solution is to bring in a third party agency that can hand-hold the partner through all of this, and take over much of the administration.
Objection 3: “The minimum project size is too large.”
Some smaller partners find it difficult to even get on the ladder with co-marketing campaigns. While the Vendor may think that a €10,000 investment is nothing, the partner has to consider that they need four campaigns a year with each of their three strategic vendors. At €10,000 per campaign, this is a €120,000 investment. Depending on the margins, expected sales, and size of company, this simply may not be feasible.
Vendors need to offer a range of campaigns to partners, with the minimum investment closer to €2,000. This means that multiple marketing tactics must be on offer, to scale with the investment available.
Objection 4: “We don’t get enough support from the Vendor”
Part of this can be explained by the fact that many of the Vendor’s channel management teams are currently over stretched. During the downturn caused by the credit crises, channel marketing teams have been decimated at many of the large technology Vendors.
Many of the Vendors are now turning to specialise third party agencies to provide either strategic or ad-hoc support to their channel teams, and also directly to partners. Support ranges from marketing workshops with partners, aimed at making the most of co-marketing campaigns, to administrative support, demand generation and lead management.
Objection 5: “The amount of co-funding is too small / other Vendors co-marketing offers are better, or better funded.”
There is a wide divergence in both the quality of co-marketing campaigns and level of market development funds available from the different Vendors. Some vendors offer 75% funding on co-marketing campaigns, while others offer zero.
Policy is policy, and there is not much channel marketing managers and directors can do about funding levels if the company policy is limited or no co-funding. However, they can increase the quality and support of campaigns. Free marketing workshops, free lead management, free drip-marketing and higher quality leads can all be provided by specialist third party agencies, and all improve the quality of experience and ROI for the partner.
Objection 6: “The Vendors drive peak-and-trough marketing.”
In the ITC sectors, many solutions have a six to eighteen month sales cycle (at least). Partners can become overwhelmed with the volume of leads from once-off campaigns that quickly generate lots of leads, and then no leads at all until next year. Partners simply do not have the resources to handle the peak, and do not have professional lead management and “drip-marketing” systems to nurture longer term opportunities over time.
Vendors need to take a longer-term view on co-marketing campaigns. The objective should be to provide partners with a steady stream of qualified opportunities, with quantities matched to partner resources. The Vendor, either directly or using a third party agency, should also provide lead management and nurturing support so that return-on-investment is maximised through closed sales from both near-term and long-term sales opportunities.

Review of Samsung UN46B7100

The design of the Samsung UN46B7100 is quite sleek. Being just 1.2″ in depth, it looks fabulous from any angle. It has a gray border around the black bezel, which is again surrounded by a transparent edge.
If you are stingy about spending a few extra dollars for an exciting entertainment experience, then this HDTV is not for you. This offering from Samsung is quite costly but it provides many interesting features which are absent in the other TVs.
New for 2009, Samsung has added Yahoo widgets to its higher-end sets including the UNB7100 series. The system gathers Internet-powered information modules, called “snippets,” into a bar along the bottom of the screen, and each can be activated to reveal the full-fledged widget.
Other interactive features on this set abound. It can stream videos, photos, and music from DLNA-certified devices via the network connection, as well from its USB ports, which can connect to MP3 players, USB thumbdrives, and digital cameras.
The TV is very thin and more so towards the edges. It can be mounted on the walls also which makes it look like a pretty pictureEdge-lit LED backlighting heads the UNB7100’s feature set. We also liked the myriad conventional picture adjustments, starting with four adjustable picture modes that are all independent per input. There are five color temperature presets that are augmented by the capability to adjust each via a custom white balance menu; three varieties of noise reduction, including an automatic setting; a film mode to engage 2:3 pull-down (it also works with 1080i sources); a seven-position gamma control that affects the TV’s progression from dark to light; a dynamic contrast control that adjusts the picture on the fly; a “black tone” control that affects shadow detail; and a color space control that lets you tweak the Samsung’s color gamut.
The UNB7100 series offers good connectivity, as long as your AV system doesn’t have many analog components. The highlight is four HDMI inputs, arranged vertically along the shallow connection bay on the back of the TV (note that fat cables might not fit the nearly flush sockets very well).

The Compound Microscope and Its Aliases

It is compound enough to understand the technical configurations of compound microscopes. More confusion sets in when these microscopes come in several disguises when they all share the same thread. They are all compound.
So You Want a Compound Microscope
Get acquainted with the different types of compound microscopes before buying one. Yes, there are different types of this microscope, which to a newbie can be confusing; if you are procuring one you might be asked if you want a binocular, monocular, trinocular, or light microscope. Don’t cringe. Tell them outright you want microscope that is good enough to study cells and tissues and you want two-eyepieces to see them with.
You’ll be handed a binocular microscope with compound functions. But if you tell them you want a unit that has a stage with a hole in it, because that was what you saw in your school lab, you’ll be shown an array of compound light microscopes. This type of microscope uses that hole on the stage for light source, the better to view the specimen with.
As for the monocular, it’s good for microscopy experts. Do not take this if you hate the idea of squinting an eye to view the specimen. It can be confusing. Well, it can be done if you remedy this by using a patch over the other eye so you can see the specimen as one whole piece.
All about Optics
But whatever they are called, they all have convex or curved lenses. Take a long hard look at a compound microscope. There are four lenses facing towards the specimen on the stage, while the other two serve as the eyepiece. The objective lens sends an enlarged image to the eyepiece or the ocular lens so what you see is a ten times the image of the specimen. These objective lenses make it possible for you to adjust the degree of magnification of the object.
If you want a higher degree of magnification, you use the high dry objective. It is the longest of the objective lenses and magnifies objects forty times their size. There’s the oil immersion objective though not available always. This is much longer than the high dry objective. So what’s special about this? This magnifies objects one hundred times their actual size but a drop of oil must be placed on top of the sample tissue to fill the space between the specimen and the objective lens.
You will be informed that you can determine objective magnification by multiplying objective power by the ocular power. These two sources of magnification makes these scopes compound – whether these are binocular, monocular, or light. It’s all about optics with compound microscopes; nothing more and nothing less and there are no powerful gadgets hidden in these microscopes.
Knowing these facts can help you make a choice when presented with a bevy of compound scopes. However, you’ll be asked again for your brand preference. Now that’s another thing. You can dig up brand information and compare notes with friends. By that time, you can march up and announce that you want a binocular light compound microscope. The Art of Invisible Life Forms Seen Through a Fluorescent Microscope

The fluorescent microscope is a conventional light microscope and belongs to the family of compound microscopes but uses a higher intensity of light. It works two ways; it magnifies the sample and causes the sample to emit a glow or luminescence. What you see through the lens is a palette of colors or combination of colors.
Luminescence Art
The fluorescent microscope is an effective instrument for studying cells and invisible-to-the-eye organisms; this is a standard microscope for scientific research, biology, and other sciences or industries that require a study of specimens that cannot be scrutinized by the unaided human eye. For accuracy of observation, the specimen is coated with a green fluorescent protein known as the fluorophore. When light hits the specimen, it emits a long wavelength of light of a different color.
Imagine yourself in the dark and watching glow-in-the-dark objects. That’s the closest thing description to the experience of peering through the fluorescent microscope. Typically, the specimen will give off different colors as sections of it will respond different to the stimulus. It is not unusual to see different patterns and different colors. In the study of a dividing cancer cell, researchers use different color stains on the specimen. Through the eyepiece you can observe unusual shapes in green or red.
Different samples from different specimens show different structures. Some you would say resemble cubic art. The shapes range from strands of filament, globules or circles and against a canvass of dark background , the specimens give an ethereal glow. Imagine a huge luminous painting. If these were not cancer cells or cells from sick cows, it would make a good art form. Perhaps somebody out there can imitate life in art, not the other way around.
Luminescence and Scientific Research
The fluorescent microscope is instrumental in the discovery of cures for diseases. Research studies are able to study specimens of diseased and healthy cells and their behavior or reaction to different stimulus. To get a specific wavelength for the emitted luminescence, excitation filters are used. This is positioned in the excitation path before the dichroic mirroic. To sum it up, fluorescence improves research methodologies for cellular biology, immunology, medical research, microbiology and other related fields.
Researchers can observe the different behaviors or characteristic of cells, thanks to the invented different stains and this microscope. Scientific research will continue to discover cures for different diseases. As you read this, much work is still done to improve the fluorescent microscope.
